Title of Project - Public Land Management Solutions
-
Abstract of Project - For my project, I competed in the Range Cup at the Society for Range Management national meetings in Saint George, Utah. I presented on why federally owned and managed land needs to be given back to the state it is found in. I used leadership skills to guide and persuade people to switch the public lands to state ownership.
-
Larger Purpose - I competed in the Range Cup to show employers that I care about the problems faced with Range Management today. My goal is to become a Range Management Specialist, and these issues are very concerning to the field of natural resource management. By looking for a solution, I bettered my skills in public relations and gave myself an edge in my field.
-
Project Goal - For my Edge Project, I participated in the Range Cup to sharpen my skills in problem solving in the field of Range Management
-
Outcomes - By competing in my Edge Project, I tried to win the competition, however I did not place. I was placed somewhere in the middle. I was able to show my ability to critical think however.
-
Deliverable(s) - I will have my Range Cup Poster, pictures of me explaining my Range Cup project to the judges, and also pictures of me in North Dakota working as a Range Management Intern. The Range Cup introduced me to my new boss.
-
Differentiation - I was able to stand out from other people in my major because they do not compete in problem solving competitions such as the Range Cup.
-
Costs - My cost for my project consisted of gas to Saint George for 5 days, food, and materials to build my poster that is three by four feet. My total cost was around $100.
-
Timeline - From researching the topic, putting together my poster, and attending the meetings I had roughly 100 hours into my project. It was a very long project, but a very successful one.
